Asset Analysis Research & Consulting identifies a positive base from which effective change/consultation can be made. It is my belief that research should identify strengths and those "things" that once worked (sankofa), identify "root causes," and suggest solutions. Instead of deficient analysis that primarily identifies "what's wrong with you."

Dr. Lathardus Goggins II is available for workshops and consultation; including the following topics:

African-Centered Rites of Passage - Sense of self is the basis of the ability to determine which experiences, values and people are harmful (mis-educative) and which are helpful (educative). Therefore, an individual who has entered into a process which clarifies the self and purpose (rites of passage), is being prepared for education. We must see education as a process that starts long before a child is sent to school. The foundations of educative process lies within cultural context. A context which we must build for our children. Participants will learn the values, rituals, and experiences which comprise the African centered rites or passage process.(click here for more detail)

Taking Ownership of Education: Strategies for Academic Success

School systems across the United States have come under public scrutiny, as frustration with schools, especially the inner city districts, increase. Allegations of not adequately preparing youth to cross the bridge to the 21st century, has lead to debates about funding practices, teacher accountability, parental involvement and paradigm shifts. Also, concerns about the level of violence in schools, teen pregnancy, drugs, and other distractions have been apart of the public discussion on "How do we better educate our youth?" As African Americans "we" must take ownership the process of educating our youth. We must recognize that education is a process that starts long before a child is sent to school, and that the foundation of an educative process lies within cultural context; a context which we must build for our children and based on the assumptions that:
1. Every person has a build in capacity to succeed
2. Every person is born with a driving intent to express this capacity
3. We are one with the Cosmos (the Creator and the creation);
4. The Creator does not design for failure.

Participants will learn and discuss:

  1. How to use the values, rituals and ceremonies of the African centered rites of passage process.
  2. How to better understanding the rights of the parent and student.
  3. What questions to ask teachers, counselors and principals.
  4. Viewing education as a process that starts long before a child is sent to school.

Protecting Our Children From The Racism Plaguing American Schools

In the politically correct society that we live in today, everyone would love to believe that our schools systems are a wonderful place where everyone is treated equally. Problem is, that's simply not true. Racism, though it may not be as obvious as it once was, is still a huge problem in our schools.

This workshop will explain how African-American families and communities can overcome racist views through the combined efforts of children and adults by:

  • Getting prepared for the responsibilities that lie ahead in life.
  • Seeking and attaining approval from respected people in the community.
  • Striving to achieve above and beyond high school graduation.
  • Pumping the knowledge they've gained back into the community.
